VARBERGER GENERAL INFORMATION
As I understand it, the Varberger has been made since 1954. It was originaly designed and built in the town of Varberger in southern Sweden. Over the years a number of companys have owed the rights to build the rifle and at one time it was sold under the name Lakelander. It is an extremy strong action designed for hunting in the rugged north woods of Sweden.

These Varberger rifles were imported into the U.S. in 2000 when Meacham T&H Inc. became the dealer for Kalix Precisions Varberger line of rifles. They are new but were used as display rifles at various trade shows around Europe and some have scratches and such from being handled.
The Varberger action was machined from a heat treated steel bar so that there was never a problem with the receiver warping during heat treat. The six locking lug bolt was put into its receiver and the receiver was mounted in a special hydraulic press. A huge hydraulic cylinder pressed the bolt into the mating locking lugs in the reciver untill the steel was deformed to give perfect contact between all of the bolt and receiver locking surfaces. I was in the Kalix factory and actually pressed several bolt/receivers. You could watch the presure gage rise and tell when the metal started to deform and when full contact was reached.
The Varberger has a rotary magazine that is vary reliable. The lever on the right side is used to empty the magazine out the top of the action. The trigger is adjustable and very well made. Bolt release is located on teh left side rear. The Varberger used a bedding plate in the stock that mates with the transverse slot milled in the bottom front of the receiver ahead of the large stock screw. Stocks are all european walnut. I toured the stock factory near Castle, Germany. They had very modern CNC machinery. The checkering is machine done. not as nice as custom checkering but very good for a production rifle.

The Varberger bolt is a rather unique design. The bolt handel fits through a hole in the bolt walls and spring preasure locks the bolt handle, cocking piece and the bolt body togather. The extractor is the Sako type. The bolt hande knob can be either the plastic knob shown or a walnut piece.
Use two Remington 700 front scope mount bases. Both front and rear bases are the same.
